Osprey Teams Both Performed Well in 2013

Stockton Cross Country Season Recap

The Stockton cross country teams were two divergent units in 2013, both of which produced solid campaigns that featured numerous highlights. The Osprey women's squad was a veteran group led by a nucleus of four seniors who were among Stockton's five scorers every time that they competed. By contrast, the Stockton men's roster consisted of 12 first- or second-year runners plus two juniors and two seniors. Despite their different makeups, both teams fared well throughout the season, including a meet victory for the women's squad at the Cairn University Highlander Invitational.

Morgan Sinclair capped her outstanding career with five top-10 finishes in six races, including wins at the Stockton Friends & Alumni meet and NJAIAW Championship. Sinclair produced the best finish ever by an Osprey female at the both the NJAC Championship (4th) and NCAA Atlantic Regionals (23rd). She was named NJAC Runner of the Week three times and also earned NJAC First Team and USTFCCCA All-Region honors for the second straight year.

Seniors Laura Warren, Stephanie Paluchowski and Caitlyn Kozlowski joined Sinclair as Stockton's veteran foursome. Warren registered three  top tens and placed in the teens on two more occasions while Paluchowski contributed three top-15 efforts and Kozlowski placed in the top 20 three times. Freshman Cassandra Hrusko was a key addition as she collected the NJAC Rookie of the Year award and four NJAC Rookie of the Week honors. Those five runners led Stockton to their best finish since 2006 at the NCAA Regionals, 17th place, as well as third place at the NJAC Championship for the second year in a row.

Senior James Rivers was the top performer for the Stockton men's team with victories at the Stockton Friends & Alumni meet and Osprey Open plus a fourth-place finish at the NJAC Championship that earned him an NJAC First Team nod. Rivers also was chosen NJAC Rookie of the Week once. Mike Scala broke out with five top-20 performances during his sophomore year, and he was Stockton's first or second runner across the line five times. Senior Mitchell Berlin closed his career with a solid season highlighted by three races in which he was the number two finisher for the Ospreys.

Sophomores Phillip Palmer and Antonino Piro chipped in throughout the campaign. Piro was one of Stockton's five scoring runners at seven meets, including three top-20 efforts. Palmer scored at five races and finished in the top 25 three times. Junior transfer Nicolo Spadavecchia was the top newcomer on the squad, placing among the top four for the Ospreys six times with two top 20's. The men posted their best team finish at the Osprey Open, where they placed second. Stockton later finished fourth in the NJAC Championship.
