Stockton Outscores William Paterson 5-4

(Wayne, NJ) - Richard Stockton (6-2-2, 2-1 NJAC) hit the five-goal mark for the second time in their last five matches and held off William Paterson (5-3-2, 0-2-1) for a 5-4 victory in a high-scoring NJAC affair. Freshman Anthony Colofranson (Woodbury Hts./Gateway) scored three goals for his first career hat trick and Matt Jenne (Kinnelon/Kinnelon) dished three assists for the Ospreys.

Marcus Hackett gave the Pioneers a short-lived 1-0 lead just 5:49 into the game but Stockton freshman Vinnie Puglia (Freehold/Freehold Twp.) answered with his first career goal only 1:51 later for a 1-1 tie. Dominic Nocito (Delran/Delran) distributed the first of his two assists in the game. Colofranson scored his first marker and Jenne tallied his first assist at the 26:20 mark to put the Ospreys on top 2-1.

Matt Nigro responded with a goal on a free kick at 34:05 before Clevon McPherson (Kingston, JAM/Pemberton) gave Stockton a 3-2 edge with 1:51 left in the first half. The goal came on a corner kick by Nocito, who earned his second assist of the night on the play.

Colofranson opened the second-half scoring 10:57 into the period, taking a long pass from Jenne and netting his second of the match on a breakaway for a 4-2 Stockton lead. William Paterson cut the gap to one at 70:58 before Colofranson completed his hat trick and Jenne collected his third assist for a 5-3 advantage with 9:11 to play. Hackett scored again for William Paterson with 2:29 on the clock but the Ospreys protected the lead from there for the 5-4 victory.

Stockton goalkeeper Bob Millar (Cream Ridge/Allentown) earned the win with five saves. The Ospreys were credited with just seven shots, but they cashed in on their opportunities to equal their season high of five goals in a game.

Stockton will travel to rival Rowan University on Wednesday, October 2 for their annual NJAC grudge match at 7:30 pm.
