ResultsStaten Island, NY – Stockton University began the 2015-16 indoor track & field season by competing in the Metro Holiday Season Opener, which was hosted by Manhattan College at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Saturday. There was no team scoring at the meet, which featured a mixture of NCAA Division I, II and III squads. Individual events at the large meet included anywhere from 20-70 competitors.
Stockton's two All-Americans were the top finishers for the Ospreys.
Jared Lewis (Westville/Deptford) finished second in the men's triple jump (14.73m) and
Chelsea Vaughan (Whiting/Southern Regional) placed third in the women's pole vault (3.45m).
In men's competition,
Robert Dengel (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) finished fifth in the 500m (1:05.62) while
Tyler Pinto (Toms River/TR North) and
Beau Birch (Ocean City/Ocean City) were sixth in the 800m (1:57.77) and long jump (6.75m) respectively.
Aaron Wilson (Mays Landing/Oakcrest) finished eighth in the 60m hurdles (8.77 seconds) and
Aaron Bess (Ridgewood/Ridgewood) was ninth in the triple jump (13.75m).
For the women's team,
Kaitlyn Dermen (Millville/Millville) placed fifth in the pole vault (3.30m) and
Jassina Surles (Williamstown/Williamstown) was seventh in the long jump (5.17m).
Alicia Belko (Hainesport/Rancocas Valley) finished ninth in the mile (5:21.10) and freshman
Diane Moran (Millville/Millville) was ninth in the triple jump (10.15m).
Lewis, Birch, Bess, Dengel and Vaughan qualified for the ECAC Championships.
The Metro Holiday Season Opener was the only meet of the fall semester for Stockton. The Ospreys will return to action at the start of the spring semester by competing in the Princeton Tiger Open on January 23.
