Galloway, NJ – Stockton University senior
Jared Lewis (Westville/Deptford) was selected NJAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his work in the indoor track & field season opener. Lewis won two events and finished fifth in another at the Franklin & Marshall Diplomat Open on Saturday.
Lewis, the defending NCAA indoor champion in the triple jump, picked up right where he left off by winning the event at F&M with a distance of 14.57 meters that topped a field of 20 competitors. The senior captured the long jump by 13 inches with a leap of 7.08 meters that was the best among 50 entrants. Both of Lewis' best efforts came on his second attempt in each event.
In addition to the two victories, Lewis ran the 60m dash for just the second time in his career and finished fifth out of 76 runners with a time of 7.11 seconds. He ran the sprint in between the long jump, which started at noon, and the triple jump that began at 4 pm.
Lewis is the most decorated student-athlete in Stockton history, with seven All-American honors in track & field including the national title in the indoor triple jump last year. He and the Ospreys have one more meet before the holidays. Stockton will compete in the Fast Times Before Finals meet at Lehigh University on December 8-9.
