Stockton Dominates Ramapo in NJAC First Round

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University (21-8) dominated Ramapo (17-11) for a 3-0 sweep by set scores of 25-12, 25-12, 25-14 in the first round of the NJAC Tournament. The Ospreys are the No. 3 seed and Ramapo was the No. 6 seed.
 
As a team, Stockton registered 39 kills and just eight hitting errors for an outstanding .403 hitting percentage. Kate Louer (Clifton/Clifton) led the Ospreys with 11 kills followed by Camille De La Torre (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) with eight kills.
 
Kristen Burton (Annapolis, Md./Archbishop Spalding) dished 17 assists and Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) contributed 15 assists, five digs and three aces. McKenna Ritchie (Newark, Del./Newark Charter) led the back row with a match-high 11 digs.
 
Rileigh Wilson (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) added six kills while Laila Newborn (Lower Merion, Pa./Lower Merion) tallied five kills and two aces. Helen Murray (Virginia Beach, Va./First Colonial) served a career-high five aces.
 
Stockton led the first set from start to finish and won 25-12 behind four kills by Newborn and three aces from Murray. In the second set, Wilson heated up with five kills on six attacks to spark the Ospreys to another 25-12 victory.
 
Louer and De La Torre smacked five kills apiece to propel Stockton to a 25-14 triumph in the third set that clinched the match and advanced the Ospreys to the semifinal round of the NJAC Tournament.
 
Valentina Palen paced the young Ramapo squad with eight kills. Asya Akar finished with six kills and five digs. Katie Bishop recorded a match-high 19 assists plus five digs for the Roadrunners.
 
Stockton will play its NJAC Tournament semifinal match at No. 2 seed Rowan University on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
