Sarah Elleman is in her 11th year as the head field hockey coach at Stockton. Elleman has a career record of 182-126 (.591 winning percentage) in 17 seasons as a college head coach overall, including a 99-74 mark (.582 winning percentage) in her eight years at Stockton following seven seasons at Utica College.Â
Last year, Stockton went 11-9, reaching double digits in wins for the third straight year after going 10-9 in 2024. In 2023, Elleman led Stockton to one of the program’s best seasons ever as the Ospreys tied the school record of 15 victories, finishing with a 15-5 mark, and achieved their highest NCAA regional ranking ever, fourth in Region IV. Elleman and her assistants were voted NJAC Coaching Staff of the Year for her third career conference coaching award overall and first in the NJAC.
Stockton won six games with a young 2022 roster that included 15 freshmen and sophomores. Elleman helmed the Ospreys to an 8-8 record in 2021, with eight games decided by just one goal. Stockton played a COVID-shortened five-game slate in Spring 2021. Elleman coached the Ospreys to a 14-4 record in 2019 as Stockton got off to its best start ever by opening the season with 10 straight wins. The 14 victories were one short of the school record of 15 wins from a year earlier.
The 2018 campaign under Elleman featured a school-record 15 wins and the Ospreys’ first postseason championship as they won the ECAC Tournament title. Stockton also earned the program’s first NJAC playoff berth since 2013. Elleman steered the Ospreys to an 11-9 record and the program’s second ECAC Tournament berth in 2017. She reached a personal milestone with her 100th career win, a 3-2 overtime triumph over Gwynedd Mercy on October 4, 2017. In 2016, Elleman’s first season at Stockton was highlighted by a 6-1 start on the way to eight victories for a five-win improvement over the previous year.
Prior to her arrival at Stockton, Elleman spent seven seasons as the head coach at Utica College (NY) during which she posted a record of 83-52 (.618 winning percentage). Elleman led the Pioneers to three consecutive Empire 8 championships and NCAA Tournament berths from 2012-14, reaching the NCAA second round twice. Elleman was voted Empire 8 Coach of the Year twice, in 2011 and 2014.
Elleman coached Utica to a school-record 18 wins in 2014, topping the mark of 17 victories that was set the prior year in 2013. The 2014 squad also set school records for points (231) and goals (92). Elleman led the Pioneers to a 15-6 record in 2012 that started the program’s run of three straight Empire 8 titles and NCAA Tournament berths. She first joined the college coaching ranks as an assistant at Earlham College (IN) from 2006-09.Â
Elleman was a two-sport athlete at Drew University, playing field hockey and lacrosse. She was a three-time All-Freedom Conference selection in field hockey who helped the Rangers win 41 games and three conference championships. She received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Drew in 2005 and then earned a master’s degree with a concentration in Athletes and Academic Achievement from the University of California, Berkeley in 2006.
