Club Sports - Judo

Judo was created in 1882 by Jigoro Kano as a physical, mental, and moral pedagogy in Japan. With its origins coming from Japan, judo's most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the objective is to either throw or take down the opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue the opponent with a pin, or force the opponent to submit with a joint lock or a choke.

Strikes and thrusts by hands and feet as well as weapons defenses are a part of judo, but only in pre-arranged forms and are not allowed in judo competition or free practice.
Coach Goldmann started practicing Judo in 1972 while in college at Rochester Institute of Technology. After graduating, he has instructed classes, clubs and clinics in NJ, NY, NC., VA., MA., and Sweden. He received his Shodan, or 1st degree black belt in 1983. In 1995, he received his 2nd degree and April of 2021, he was promoted to 3rd degree black belt. While learning Judo,he also studied Jujitsu and in September of 2005, was awarded a 7th degree black belt in Ni Sei Kyto Ryu jujitsu, an early martial art of the Samurai. In October 2009, Coach Dave Goldmann founded the Stockton Judo Club, and the club has grown in numbers with great success with our Stockton University students.
