Stockton Athletics Unveils New Identity

Stockton center logo-362x200
Stockton S logo-166x200

(Galloway, NJ) – Starting today, the Richard Stockton Office of Athletics & Recreation will have a new identity, one that is showcased by a trio of primary logos. The centerpiece of the Ospreys' new look is a dynamic bird head that is more aggressive than the Stockton "triangle logo" that it replaces. The new identity goes beyond a simple logo and offers a versatile package of insignias that are variations of the central theme and will become identifiable with Stockton Athletics.

Two of the logos feature the Stockton Ospreys wordmark that has been in use since 2000 and has been given fresh life by pairing it with the new osprey head. The third will be the "Stockton S" that was introduced by the College last year and has been adopted by the athletic department today. Because it was produced first, the "Stockton S" served as the basis for the new athletics brand. All three logos were designed by alumnus Gary Schenck '96 of the Stockton graphics department.

The new identity points Stockton Athletics forward toward the future while remaining true to the past. The school colors have always been black and white, and the fresh look not only reflects that but also minimizes the use of the blue accent that was so prominently featured in the triangle logo. The blue trim and gold eye are consistent with colors that appear in the Stockton College seal. The Ospreys nickname is derived from a bird of prey that is indigenous to the Pinelands region in which Stockton is located.

Due to budget constraints, Stockton's new look will be phased in over the next few years for items such as uniforms and signage. The men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's lacrosse and women's rowing teams are among those slated to receive new uniforms this year. In addition, anything that is purchased from this point forward such as practice gear, team apparel, promotional items and banners will feature the new logos.

This summer's change marks the first major overhaul of the Stockton Athletics design since 2000 when the department began using the triangle logo that was created by Michael Mezzacappa '00, who was a student at the time. The emblem was tweaked in 2009 when its accent color was switched from red to Columbia blue to match the palette of the College seal.
