The Office of Athletics & Recreation held its 2014 Stockton Athletics Hall of Fame dinner in the Campus Center Event Room on October 10. Jessica Caccamo '05 (track & field), Vanessa Dickinson '97 (women's soccer), Pat Holden '90 (men's basketball), Steve Karrer '01 (baseball) and Kevin Logue '98 (men's lacrosse) were the five individuals inducted into Stockton's fifth Hall of Fame Class.
The program began with the inductions of Caccamo and Dickinson prior to dinner. Caccamo was a 12-time NJAC champion in throwing events and was named the NJAC Outstanding Female Athlete (outdoor) in 2003. She also was a three-time NJAC Outstanding Female Field Athlete (indoor 2003, 2005 and outdoor 2004) as well as an 18-time NJAC all-conference honoree in the throwing events and the 2003 ECAC champion in the discus. Caccamo thanked among others her roommate fellow Hall of Famer Kim Marino who "taught me what a champion looked like and acted like."
Dickinson was a three-time all-region selection and four-time NJAC all-conference player who ranks second all-time at Stockton in goals (60), assists (26) and points (146). She helped the Ospreys reach the NCAA Final Four in 1995, which Stockton hosted, and called playing on the event on her home field an unforgettable experience. "When I arrived at Stockton, I found a group of girls who were as passionate about soccer as I was," Dickinson said.
After a break for dinner, the inductions resumed with Holden, who was the 1990 NJAC Player of the Year and an NJAC First Team selection in both of his seasons at Stockton. Holden transferred to Stockton in 1988 and scored 839 points in his two years, including his 1,000th career point. Holden holds the school record for free throws made in a season (177 in 1989-90) and ranks ninth all-time at Stockton in assists (200). Holden said of his coaches, "The men's basketball staff had an uncanny ability to relate to players. The staff rekindled my enthusiasm for playing basketball."
Karrer, the first baseball player elected to the Stockton Athletics Hall of Fame, is the program's only two-time NJAC First Team selection (2000-01). He also was voted ABCA All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team in 2001 and NJAC Second Team in 1999. Karrer ranks second in Stockton history in triples (8), fourth in batting (.369), doubles (30) and home runs (14), and ninth in RBI (74). Karrer spoke of the importance of the friendships that he developed with teammates, many of which still exist today, saying "Playing baseball at Stockton is one of the most important and gratifying things that I have done in my life."
Logue capped the evening by becoming the first lacrosse player in the Stockton Athletics Hall of Fame. He is Stockton's all-time leader in career goals (191) and ranks second in points (261) and fifth in assists (70). Logue was a two-time Knickerbocker Lacrosse First Team selection (1997-98) who tied for the national lead in points in 1997 and ranks 22nd in NCAA Division III history in career goals. "It is a great honor to be selected as the first lacrosse player in the Hall of Fame," Logue said. "In my four years at Stockton, the team was really like a family," he added, expressing a common theme of the 2014 Stockton Athletics Hall of Fame banquet.
