Stockton Ends Season with 1-0 Win

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Richard Stockton (7-9) ended the 2014 season on a high note as they defeated FDU-Florham (12-7) by a 1-0 margin on Thursday night. Rileigh Ruff (Delran/Delran) scored the only marker on Senior Night to give the Ospreys the victory.

Scoring opportunities were at a premium all night as both teams failed to mount much offense due to the defensive play of the squads. Samantha Barcia (Berlin/Eastern) had the Ospreys' best chance early in the first half. She had a shot kicked out then fired her own rebound wide of the Devils' net. FDU-Florham was able to squeeze off four shots on net but all were turned away by Sara Winters (Blackwood/Triton).

Ruff scored her fourth goal of the season 7:25 into the second half when she blasted a slap shot into the net for the 1-0 advantage. Barcia took a penalty corner and sent a pass to Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown). Massa then found Ruff on the left wing and she tallied the eventual game-winner on the only shot for Stockton in the second half.

The Devils turned up the heat, getting off nine shots, six on net, but could not break into the scoring column. Massa helped the cause with a defensive save as she knocked a high shot out of the air with just over 12 minutes remaining, and the Ospreys came away victorious.

Winters made four saves in the first half before giving way to Liz Stankiewicz (Freehold Twp./Freehold Twp.) who played the second half, making five stops in net. The two seniors combined for their team's third shutout of the season, with Stankiewicz picking up the win. Amy Defnet made two saves in taking the loss for the Devils.

The Ospreys finish the season with a 7-9 record. Before the contest, they honored seniors Cassie Kirk (Middletown/Middletown South), Lindsey Treptow (Bordentown/Bordentown), Colleen Knight (Pennsauken/Camden Catholic), Sam Levine (Montville/Montville), Stephanie Reichardt (Oakhurst/Ocean Twp.), Ruff, Winters and Stankiewicz.
