Stockton Drops ECAC Championship, 2-1

Boxscore

Camden, NJ - No. 3 seed Richard Stockton (13-6-5) came within 11-and-a-half minutes to have a chance to send head coach Jeff Haines out with a win, but No. 1 seed Rutgers-Camden (16-8-1) had other ideas. The Scarlet Raptors defeated the Ospreys by a 2-1 score to win the 2014 ECAC Metro title. The match was Haines' last as head coach for Stockton after announcing his retirement from coaching earlier this season.

The Scarlet Raptors opened the scoring in the first half when Mike Ryan scored the first of his two goals on the day at 21:34. Grant Taylor fed Ryan and he made no mistake from five yards out for the 1-0 lead. Anthony Colofranson (Woodbury Heights/Gateway) knotted the game just over eight minutes later when he was sent in alone on a breakaway by Mike DeFeo (Sicklerville/Timber Creek). Colofranson's 20th goal of the season eluded the goalkeeper and the contest was tied 1-1. Colofranson became the fourth Osprey to ever score 20 or more goals in a season.

The teams played tight defense until the 79:33 mark when Ryan scored on a through ball from Connor Hurff for the 2-1 advantage. The Scarlet Raptors were able to hold off the Ospreys the rest of the way and secured their fourth ECAC Metro title.

Bobby Varga (Toms River/Toms River East) suffered the loss for Stockton, making five saves. Sean Matias stopped six Osprey attempts for the victory.

Stockton finishes the season with 13 wins, the 21st consecutive year that the team has ended the season with double-digit victories. Haines ends his sterling career at Stockton with a record of 262-99-34, the 2001 NCAA Division III National title, two NCAA Final Fours, four NJAC titles, seven NCAA Tournament berths and three ECAC Metro crowns.
