Stockton Edged 2-1 on Two Late Goals

Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (12-4-7) ended their 2015 season on a stunning note as Mount St. Mary (15-7-2) scored two late goals, including the game-winner with just 1.4 seconds remaining to down the Ospreys 2-1. The loss eliminated the Ospreys from the ECAC Metro Tournament in the quarterfinal round. Freshman Christina Denney (Millstone/Allentown) picked up the lone Osprey goal on the evening.

Stockton dominated the statistical part of the game, outshooting the Knights 11-3 during the first half and 19-7 for the game. Stockton got on the board on a corner kick 32 seconds after a penalty shot by Marissa Bruno (Toms River/Toms River East) was stopped by Mount St. Mary goalie Mary Riley.

Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) sent the corner kick into the box where it deflected off Chelsea James (Howell/Howell) to Denney, who converted the shot. Denney's third goal of the season came at 35:19 and gave the Ospreys a 1-0 that lasted until the last seven minutes.

The second stanza saw the Osprey defense shut down the Knights until they registered their first shot on net with 6:50 remaining in the contest. The visitors gained momentum and broke through for the tie at 84:25 when Destiny Ribandeneyra tapped in a cross from Bridget McKeever to make it 1-1.

The contest looked like it was headed to overtime until McKeever hooked up with Ribandeneyra again in almost the same spot for the tap-in game-winner with 1.4 seconds left to bring Stockton's season to a close with a 2-1 setback.

Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) made two saves in net for Stockton in taking the loss. Mary Riley was outstanding between the pipes for the Knights, making 11 saves, including the penalty kick, for the win.

Stockton finished the year at 12-4-7, setting the school record for ties and playing in the ECAC Tournament for the sixth straight season.
