BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Stockton University (5-2, 3-1 NJAC) won for the fifth time in the last six contests with a wire-to-wire 71-51 victory over Rutgers-Camden (1-6, 1-4 NJAC) on Wednesday night.
Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) scored the Ospreys' first 10 points of the tilt en route to a game-high 25 points. Stockton's defense forced 23 turnovers that led to 30 points on the evening.
With the game tied at 10-10 early in the contest, Stockton used a balanced scoring attack to rip off a 14-4 run and take the lead for good at 24-14.
Darius Jerkins (Somers Point/Mainland) scored four of the points, with
Tom Catanoso (Cape May CH/Middle Twp.) nailing a three-pointer during the spurt.
The Scarlet Raptors closed to within five points at 31-26 with 22 seconds left, but a three-pointer by
Zavon Johnson (Trenton/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) at the buzzer gave the Ospreys a 34-26 lead at the half. Cane led all players with 12 points before the break.
The second half was all Stockton as they slowly increased their advantage to 47-30 with a 13-4 run to start the second stanza, led by Cane with six markers that spurred the run. Stockton was never threatened after that, leading by at least 12 points the rest of way and cruising home to a 71-51 triumph.
Cane's season-high 25 points came on 10-19 shooting and he also topped the Ospreys with three of their 12 steals on the night. Catanoso was the only other Osprey in double figures with 12 markers.
Jaymere Hadden (Millville/Millville) and
Maurice Hart (Asbury Park/Asbury Park) pulled down seven rebounds apiece while
Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) blocked a game-high three shots to go with eight points and three steals. Hadden led all players by dishing four assists.
For the Scarlet Raptors, Elijah Robles scored 14 points, with Davis Graham and John Tatem adding 11 and 10 points respectively. Abby Bah grabbed a game-high 10 boards for the visitors.
Stockton will finish up the short two-game home stand when they face Rutgers-Newark on Saturday at 3 p.m.
