BoxscoreUnion, NJ – #19 Richard Stockton (19-5, 13-4 NJAC) trailed for most of the game before taking its only lead with 3:09 remaining and holding on for a 64-63 win over Kean (6-18, 4-13) that halted a two-game skid. The Ospreys shot less than 38 percent from the floor for the fifth straight time and were behind by 17 in the first half.
Josh Blamon (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) scored half of Stockton's points, pouring in a career-high 32 markers, largely on the strength of seven three-pointers.
Â
Blamon was the lone Osprey in double figures and he also grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for his second straight double-double and fifth of the season.
Armin Cane (Pleasantville/Pleasantville) finished with nine points and a game-high five steals while
Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) also scored nine points. Stockton shot 37.5 percent from the floor but 12 of its 21 field goals were three-pointers. With the win, the Ospreys improved to 8-2 in games decided by four points or less this season.
Â
The Ospreys faced a 61-55 deficit with five minutes remaining but rallied behind three consecutive three-pointers by Blamon for a 9-2 spurt that gave them their first lead of the game at 64-63 with 3:09 remaining. Incredibly, neither team scored again as Stockton held on for the one-point win. In the last three minutes, Kean went 0-3 from the floor with two turnovers while the Ospreys survived despite going 0-4 from the line and 0-2 from the field with one turnover.
Â
Stockton struggled for the first 35 minutes before Blamon's barrage of late three-pointers. The Ospreys were down 11-0 in the first 4:57 and 24-7 with 9:29 gone in the game. Blamon scored nine points during a 19-6 run that got the Ospreys within 30-26 before Kean extended the margin to six (37-31) at the half.
Â
After scoring 12 first-half points, Blamon exploded for 20 of his team's 33 markers in the second half. Stockton closed the gap to one on a Harmon three-pointer (37-36) and later on a Cane free throw (40-39) in the first five minutes of the half. Kean responded with eight straight points to make it 48-39 with 12:30 on the clock.
Â
Nine points by Blamon plus a three-pointer from Cane set the stage for two Harmon free throws that capped a 14-6 spurt that again cut the deficit to one (54-53) at the 8:15 mark. Kean pushed the margin back to six before Blamon carried the Ospreys to the lead with three treys in a span of 1:33 that proved to be the difference in the game.
Â
Stockton will conclude the regular season with a home game against Montclair State on Wednesday at 8 pm. A victory would give the Ospreys their fourth consecutive 20-win season and seventh in the last eight years.
