BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – Richard Stockton (20-5, 16-2 NJAC) saw their eight-game winning streak snapped as Montclair State (24-1, 17-1 NJAC) avenged their only loss of the season to Stockton in a tightly contested 50-47 victory on Wednesday night. The Ospreys held the Red Hawks, ranked #8 nationally by D3hoops.com, to just 26.9% (18-67) shooting for the game, but could not come away with the win. Montclair State clinched the #1 seed in the upcoming NJAC tournament with Stockton garnering the second seed.

The first half was a defensive struggle as neither team could mount any offense. Both squads shot poorly as Stockton shot 20.0% (5-25) while the Red Hawks were not much better at 21.6% (8-37). Montclair was able to score the last four points of the half to take a 17-14 lead into the locker room.
Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) helped keep the Ospreys close with six points, eight rebounds and five blocks during the first 20 minutes of play.

The second half saw Montclair never relinquish the lead after the break. They stretched the lead to as many as 10 at 36-26 before Stockton slowly cut into the advantage with a 17-8 run culminated with a
Sara Farrell (Marlton/Cherokee) jumper to cut the lead to 44-43 with 5:23 remaining in regulation. Farrell accounted for 11 of those tallies during the spurt.

Four points by the Red Hawks jumped the lead back to 48-43 before jumpers by Williams and
Alex Nardoza (Fords/Woodbridge) made it 48-47 with 42 seconds left but that was as close as Stockton would come. Montclair State hit two foul shots with three seconds left to set the final score at 50-47.

Farrell led Stockton with 15 points while Williams and Nardoza canned 12 markers each. Williams snared a game-high 10 boards to go with six blocked shots and three steals.
Jazmin Palma (North Bergen/North Bergen) and
Lauren Bowler (Little Silver/Red Bank Regional) dished five and four assists respectively. Stockton shot 55.0% (11-20) in the second half but could not overtake the Red Hawks.

Janitza Aquino topped all scorers with a game high 18 points for the Red Hawks as the only player in double figures. Melissa Tobie grabbed nine rebounds and pilfered a game-high five steals

Stockton's next game will be a home contest against an opponent to be determined in the semifinals of the NJAC tournament on Wednesday, February 25 at 7 pm.
