Stockton Rally Falls Short, 9-7

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-3, 1-1 Skyline) staged a furious rally but came up just short as Montclair State (6-3, 1-0 Skyline) held on for a 9-7 win on Wednesday night. Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic) and Vincent Manasia (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) scored two goals each to lead the Ospreys.
 
Montclair State opened the game by keeping Stockton off the board through the first two periods, leading 4-0 at the half. The Red Hawk defense allowed just six shots on net in the first 30 minutes of play.
 
The second half was a different story as the Ospreys came out with renewed vigor. After Montclair State scored first, Manasia and Nick Bologno (Glen Gardner/North Hunterdon) scored to cut the lead to 5-2. The Red Hawks answered once before Matt Towne (Dover, DE/Dover), Caposella and James O'Donnell (Mount Laurel/Lenape) potted goals to make it 6-5 after three periods.

The Red Hawks scored twice in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to extend to 8-5 but Stockton made one last comeback try. Manasia and Caposella netted goals 1:29 apart to pull the Ospreys within 8-7 with 4:56 remaining but Montclair State answered just over a minute later with the last tally of the night in the 9-7 final.
 
O'Donnell finished with a goal and an assist while Joseph DiBabbo (Sewell/Clearview), Bologno and Max Becker (Oak Ridge/Jefferson) each dished one assist on the night. Tony Pagano (Flemington/Hunterdon Central won 11-18 faceoffs and led all players by scooping six ground balls. Goalie Eric Leonard kicked out 10 shots in the loss.
 
For Montclair State, Michael Jevic scored four goals with Zach Schreck picking up two markers as the Red Hawks squeezed off 43 shots on the evening. Michael Schreck caused three turnovers to lead all players, while netminder Lucas Jones made 11 saves in earning the win. 
 
Stockton will finish up their three-game homestand on Saturday afternoon when they will face Utica in a non-conference tilt. Faceoff is set for 4 pm.
