Stockton Rallies Past TCNJ 9-4

Ewing, NJ – Stockton University (10-5, 2-1 NJAC) erased an early 4-0 deficit by scoring the last nine runs of the game to defeat The College of New Jersey (7-9, 0-3) 9-4 for its second road win of the week. The Ospreys surged into the lead with six runs in the third inning. Matt Mangarella (Milltown/Spotswood), Mark Jankowski (Sewell/Washington Twp.) and Andy Oliver (Penns Grove/Penns Grove) led Stockton with two hits apiece.
 
The Lions scored three runs in the first inning and added another in the second for a 4-0 lead. Stockton came to life in the top of third with six runs on five hits and an error. Oliver led off with a single and later scored on an error. Mangarella stroked an RBI single and Erik Danser (Marlton/Cherokee) notched an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Jankowski singled home Mangarella to tie it 4-4 and George Eisenhart (Harrison Twp./Clearview) capped the spree with a two-run single that gave the Ospreys their first lead at 6-4.
 
Keith Tappert (Toms River/TR East) slammed his team-leading third home run of the season in the fourth frame, a solo shot that made it 7-4. Danser extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a two-run single in the seventh inning that brought home the final two tallies in the 9-4 Stockton triumph. Danser finished with three RBI in the game.
 
Dylan Warburton (Sewell/Washington Twp.) came on in relief at the start the third stanza with Stockton down by four and shut out TCNJ for seven innings to earn his second win of the season. Warburton scattered four hits and struck out three.
 
Stockton and TCNJ will play again tomorrow at 3:30 pm, this time on the Ospreys' home field in Galloway.
