Game 1 /
Game 2Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (17-18, 5-13 NJAC) dropped their last regular season home games to William Paterson (26-9, 13-5 NJAC) by scores of 5-2 and 8-3 in nine innings on Saturday afternoon.
Lauren Knoble (Clifton, VA/Centreville) and
Holly Arentowicz (Roxbury/Roxbury) blasted home runs on the day for the Ospreys. The losses eliminated Stockton from post season consideration.
Â
In game one, Stockton fell behind 1-0 early in the contest until Arentowicz blasted a two run shot to give the Ospreys a 2-1 lead. The advantage lasted until the sixth inning when the Pioneers plated three runs and another in the seventh frame for the 5-2 victory. The Ospreys managed just four hits in the loss. Senior
Brittany Ksiezopolski (Hillsborough/Hillsborough), pitching in her last game at Stockton, suffered the defeat, ending her season with an 8-6 record.
Â
In the nightcap, the Ospreys again struggled to find some offense. Their best chance was in third inning as they loaded the bases with one away, but a double play erased the rally. With Stockton trailing 3-0 coming into their last at bat in the seventh, singles by
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) and Ksiezopolski put runners at first and third for Knoble. Her blast over the left center field fence plated three runs and tied the game sending it to extra frames at 3-3.
Â
After a scoreless eighth inning, the Pioneers put the game away, scoring five times on four hits in their half of the ninth. The Ospreys tried to answer in the bottom of the frame but were denied and the contest ended in an 8-3 victory for the visitors. Massa and Knoble rapped two hits each in support of
Samantha Shockey (Deptford/Deptford) who tossed the first 8.1 innings but took the loss. Ksiezopolski added one hit in each game for Stockton.
Â
Nicole Fryer, Kelsey Principe, Rachel Wasilak and Kaitlyn Poretti all had three hits on the day for the Pioneers. Allison Podmajersky picked up both wins on the day in the circle, tossing a complete game in the first contest, while throwing the last two frames in the nightcap.
