BoxscoreWestminster, MD – Stockton University (16-16) fell to Widener (24-20) 9-7 in an ECAC Southeast Tournament semifinal at McDaniel College to bring the Ospreys' season to a close. Stockton led by one twice in the game but was overtaken by the Pioneers in the bottom of the fifth.
Matt Mangarella (Milltown/Spotswood) went 3-5 with a run and an RBI.

Stephen Struble (Hammonton/Hammonton) was 2-3 with a triple and four RBI while
Dan Sweeney (Middletown/Middletown South) contributed two hits and two runs. In his final college game, senior
Brett Solomen (Harrison Twp./Clearview) extended his reached-base streak to 32 games and scored three runs. Solomen got on base via hit, walk or hit by pitch at least once in every game this season.

Stockton took the early lead in the top of the first as Sweeney led off with a single and later scored when Struble was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded. Widener scored twice in the second inning and once in the fourth for a 3-1 count.

The Ospreys regained the lead at 4-3 with three runs in the top of the fifth. Mangarella and Struble stroked RBI singles and Sweeney scored an unearned run on a Widener error. The Pioneers responded with a three-run homer in the bottom half to go in front for good at 6-4 and added an unearned run in the sixth frame to make it 7-4.

Struble ripped a two-run triple in the top of the seventh that scored Mangarella and Solomen to pull Stockton within 7-6. Widener quickly answered again, this time with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to put the margin back to three at 9-6.

Mark Jankowski (Sewell/Washington Twp.) knocked an RBI single in the top of the ninth to score Solomen. The Ospreys then got runners to second and third with two outs but couldn't convert and fell 9-7. Stockton finished with a 16-16 record in its first season under head coach
Scott Baker.
