BoxscoreGalloway, NJ – After starting the season with three straight road games, Stockton University (3-1) made its home debut a successful one with a 2-0 win over St. Joseph's-Long Island (1-3-1) at G. Larry James Stadium. The Ospreys posted their third straight shutout, extending their streak to 298 minutes since they last allowed a goal. Freshman
Abigayle Musto (Wall Twp./Wall) scored her first career goal and
Lindsey Thomas (Swedesboro/Kingsway) also found the back of the net.
Musto volleyed home a cross by
Samantha Rodrigues (Clark/Arthur L. Johnson) with just 9:22 gone to get Stockton on the board. Nine minutes later, a St. Joseph's clearing attempt bounced off a Golden Eagles defender and went right to Thomas, who fired a low shot to the short side for a 2-0 lead in the first 19 minutes. Stockton protected its lead the rest of the way, allowing just one quality scoring chance in the match.
Freshman goalkeeper
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) recorded her second consecutive shutout with three saves and extended her streak to 244 minutes since she last allowed a goal. Pallante's best stop came early in the second half when she got her leg on a 15-yard shot by a wide-open Erin Ward. St. Joseph's goalie Katie McGarrell finished with five saves for the Golden Eagles. Stockton outshot St. Joseph's 12-4.
Stockton will hit the road against this weekend for the Drew University Fall Festival, taking on Drew on Saturday at 1 pm and Mount St. Mary (NY) on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
