Boxscore

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-8-4) scored a tally in the second half, but eventually came up on the short end of a 2-1 score to The College of New Jersey (9-8-2) in the first round of the NJAC Tournament on Saturday night. Jeff Tanski (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) scored the only goal for Stockton on the evening. The loss eliminates the fourth seeded Ospreys from the Tournament.

The Lions, the fifth seed in the playoffs, scored first at 12:02 when Nick Sample scored on a rebound for the 1-0 lead. Thomas Hogue blasted a shot that Stockton goalkeeper Michael Lescano (Union/St. Benedict's Prep) could not corral to pick up the assist. The contest would remain 1-0 through the half, even though both teams had numerous scoring opportunities.

Stockton had a golden chance at 72:10 when Alex Kourahanis (Sicklerville/Timber Creek) hit the cross bar before Tanski was able to knot the game at 1-1 five minutes later. In the 77th minute, Tanski tapped in a feed from freshman Drew Ruble (Medford/Shawnee) after a corner kick for Stockton. The assist was Ruble's first career point.

The game would remain at 1-1 through regulation time as both teams squeezed off 17 shots on the night, many turned away by the net minders on both squads. 6:13 into the extra frame, Peter Dresch broke behind the Osprey defense and took a pass from Nick Costelloe and potted the  game-winning marker sending TCNJ to the next round of the NJAC Tournament.

Lescano made eight saves in net for Stockton, while his counterpart Dan Walsh kicked out seven Stockton attempts.
