New York, NJ – Stockton University (12-8-2) was edged 3-2 in overtime by NYU (11-3-5) in the first round of the ECAC Tournament, bringing the 2016 season to a close for the Ospreys.
Adrianna Boucher (Hamilton/Steinert) and
Alexa Chiaro (Cherry Hill/CH West) each scored a goal for Stockton.
Stockton fell behind on an early goal by NYU's Alex Benedict just 6:07 into the match and trailed into the second half. With 14:18 gone in the second stanza, Boucher received a pass from
Karleigh Niedt (Jackson/Jackson Memorial) and scored on a breakaway. The goal was Boucher's team-leading 14th of the season and Niedt, a senior back, registered her first career point in her final college game with the assist.
NYU pulled ahead with 8:53 remaining in regulation on a marker by Meredith Hackerson but the Ospreys responded three minutes later. Chiaro capitalized on a defensive miscue by the Violets to pot her second goal of the year and tie the game 2-2 with 5:53 on the clock. Overtime was short-lived as Maddie Pena netted the game-winner on a shot from the top of the box just 18 seconds into the OT to deal Stockton the season-ending 3-2 setback.

Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.) made five saves in the game. The Ospreys were outshot 15-9, with Boucher and
Lindsey Thomas (Swedesboro/Kingsway) registering two shots apiece for Stockton. Boucher finished her career second in school history in assists (33), sixth in points (99) and eighth in goals (33).
