Stockton Pounds Rutgers-Newark 3-0

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (20-8, 7-1 NJAC) closed its conference slate with a 3-0 sweep of Rutgers-Newark (9-15, 1-7 NJAC) in the final regular season home match for the Ospreys. The set scores were 25-13, 25-12, 25-11 as Stockton rolled to its fifth victory in the last six matches.
 
On Senior Night, seniors Stephanie Kovacs (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) and Kara Glynn (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) led the Ospreys with 14 and nine kills respectively. Glynn also contributed a team-high 12 digs.
 
Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) dished 22 assists and Kennedy Hubbard (Moorestown/Moorestown) added eight helpers. Franceska Gustave (Edgewater/Leonia) contributed seven kills and a team-high three blocks while Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) scooped 10 digs.
 
Stockton broke the first set open with a 10-1 run that featured two kills by Glynn and two aces from Sarah Walsh (Flemington/Hunterdon Central). In the second stanza, the Ospreys reeled off 11 straight points to build a 15-2 lead. Kovacs led the onslaught with three kills.
 
Stockton jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the third set behind three more kills by Kovacs. The Ospreys later scored eight unanswered points to make it 17-4 and closed out the match with a 25-11 win.
 
Comfort Akinbo paced Rutgers-Newark with eight kills and three blocks. Sue Riley snagged a match-high 18 digs and Karly Gregoire finished with 16 assists for the Scarlet Raiders.
 
Stockton will conclude the regular season with a tri-match at Neumann on Saturday. The Ospreys will play DeSales at 1 pm and then the host Knights at 3 pm.
