Stockton Clinches Playoff Berth with Dramatic OT Win

Camden, NJ – Stockton University (13-3-4, 4-3-2 NJAC) was less than a minute from seeing its NJAC Tournament hopes dashed before scoring the tying goal with 26 seconds left and then winning 2-1 in overtime at Rutgers-Camden (8-8-4, 2-5-2 NJAC).

Eucario Solano (Galloway/Absegami) netted the tying goal that kept Stockton's NJAC playoff hopes alive and Justin Ruiz (Wayne/Wayne Hills) scored for the fourth straight game to give the Ospreys the dramatic 2-1 triumph.

Stockton earned the No. 5 seed for the NJAC Tournament and will play at No. 4 seed Kean University on Saturday. The Ospreys will enter the postseason with a six-game unbeaten streak (3-0-3).

Darnell Brown gave Rutgers-Camden a 1-0 lead 28:19 into the game and the margin held until the final minute. Desperate for the tying goal to extend the game and keep their playoff chances afloat, the Ospreys received a penalty kick after a handball in the box.

Solano's penalty shot was saved by goalkeeper James Brett, but the ball came back to Solano, who headed it in with only 26 seconds remaining to force overtime. Stockton then got the win 5:54 into OT as Ruiz broke down the middle and deposited the game-winner into the left side of the net for the 2-1 victory.

Stockton was outshot 5-2 in the first half and survived a shot off the crossbar just 2:02 into the game. The Ospreys held a 6-4 shot advantage in the second half as they tried to keep their season alive. Rutgers-Camden registered one high shot in overtime and Ruiz converted his chance just over a minute later on Stockton's only shot in the OT.

Stockton goalkeeper Kellen Groover (Florence/Life Center) earned the win with three saves while Brett made two stops for Rutgers-Camden.

The Ospreys will play their NJAC Tournament first round game at Kean on Saturday at 8:30 pm.
