Stockton Advances to NJAC Semifinals, 3-0

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (22-10), the No. 3 seed for the NJAC Tournament, advanced to the semifinals with a 3-0 sweep of No. 6 seed Rutgers-Camden (16-16) in a first-round match at The Sports Center. The set scores were 25-15, 25-18, 25-17 in favor of the Ospreys.
 
Stephanie Kovacs (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) led a balanced Stockton attack with eight kills, followed by Kara Glynn (Severna Park, MD/Severna Park) and Charlotte Leon (Northport, NY/Northport) with seven spikes apiece.
 
Glynn also tallied a team-high seven digs plus four blocks, one behind match leader Franceska Gustave (Edgewater/Leonia) who had five blocks. Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) finished with 16 assists and six digs while Alice Brandt (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) dished 10 assists.
 
Stockton broke the first set open with a 10-3 run that featured two kills and an ace by Leon. The Ospreys led 13-6 and stayed in front by at least five on the way to the 25-15 win.
 
In the second frame, Stockton raced out to a 9-3 lead behind three early kills by Kovacs. The margin ballooned to 14-5 and the Ospreys led by five or more the rest of the way to the 25-18 triumph.
 
Stockton got off to a sluggish start but held a slim lead early in the third set. The Ospreys created some separation with a 5-1 spurt that made it 17-12 and later closed out the match by scoring seven of the last 10 points to complete the sweep 25-17.
 
Cortnee Wilkerson led Rutgers-Camden with a match-high 14 kills plus six digs. Natalie DiGiacomo topped all players with 15 digs while Caitlynn Marcano and Alyson Lowe dealt 14 assists apiece.
 
Stockton will travel to No. 2 seed Ramapo on Thursday for an NJAC semifinal match at 7 pm.
