Reading, PA – Stockton University (11-9) saw its 2017 season come to an end with a 2-0 defeat to Alvernia (14-8) in the ECAC semifinals on a chilly Saturday afternoon. Despite the outcome, the Ospreys finished the year with the second-highest win total in the program's 15-year history.

Emily Sorochynskyj (Boonton/Boonton), a senior, made five saves in her final college contest. Five Stockton players registered one shot apiece, with two of the attempts going on goal.
Stockton got off to a solid start, recording two corners and two shots in the first nine minutes. Alvernia then went on the offensive with three corners followed by a goal from Malorie McCoy that put the Ospreys behind 1-0 with 13:21 gone in the game. Overall, Stockton outshot the Golden Wolves 5-3 in the half but trailed by one at the break.
Stockton struggled to get anything going in the second half and wound up on the wrong end of margins of 13-0 in shots and 10-2 in corners. Sorochynskyj made four saves in the stanza but Taylor Dorrin scored on a penalty stroke with 17:49 remaining and the Ospreys were eliminated from the ECAC Tournament with the 2-0 setback.
In addition to posting the second-best win total in the program's history, Stockton played in the ECAC Tournament for just the second time and finished with a winning record for the third time in 15 intercollegiate seasons.
Nine seniors played their final game at Alvernia today. The list is highlighted by three-time NJAC all-conference selections
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) and
Sarah Gawrysiak (Haddon Twp./Haddon Twp.) plus
Caroline Bowman (Ocean City/Ocean City), who started all 70 games over the last four years.
