Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (2-0) kicked off the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament with a dominant 77-46 victory over Morrisville State (1-1) in the home opener for the Ospreys at The Sports Center. Stockton led for 38:37 of the 40-minute game and all 15 players saw at least six minutes of action.
Najha Treadwell (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) led the Ospreys with a double-double of a game-high 16 points plus 12 rebounds.
Lea Mendolla (Nutley/Mount St. Dominic) scored 12 points and freshman
Madison Noordeloos (Hawthorne/Hawthorne) notched her first career double-digit total with 10 markers.
Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West) topped all players with 14 rebounds, six assists and four blocks.
Stockton scored the last nine points of the first quarter, including two layups by Treadwell, to open up a 19-7 lead.
In the second quarter, Treadwell scored three points while newcomers
Colleen Branagan (Matawan/Matawan) and
Natalie Miller (New Milford/New Milford) sank three-pointers during a 9-0 spurt that made it 30-13. Two more layups by Treadwell helped extend the lead to 36-17 at the half.
Stockton put the game away by outscoring Morrisville State 26-8 in the third quarter. Mendolla and Noordeloos led the onslaught with seven points apiece in the period. The Ospreys led 62-25 after three and emptied the bench in the fourth stanza, leading by at least 25 the rest of way to the 77-46 triumph.
Alexis Campbell paced Morrisville State with 11 points followed by Abby Halsey with 10 markers and a team-high seven rebounds.
Tomorrow, Stockton will play New England College in the championship game of the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament at 3 pm after Morrisville State and Delaware Valley square off at 1 pm.
