Stockton Cruises to Tournament Title, 71-48

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (3-0) ran out to a big first-half lead and cruised to a 71-48 win over New England College (1-1) in the Stockton Tip-Off Tournament championship game on Sunday afternoon.  Najha Treadwell (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) led the Ospreys with 19 points, with 17 of her markers coming in the second half.

Stockton pulled away right from the beginning as they outscored the Pilgrims 17-4 during the first stanza. Six points each by Treadwell and Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West), plus eight turnovers by the visitors contributed to the big lead.

The Ospreys scored the first seven points of the second quarter, four by Williams, to extend the advantage to 24-4. April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point) tallied all six of her points in the game during the quarter to help Stockton to a 34-14 margin at the break.

New England College forced the issue during the third quarter, scoring eight points in the first 2:11 of the quarter to cut the lead to 36-22. That was as close as the Pilgrims would get as Treadwell scored nine of Stockton's 21 points in the period for a commanding 55-32 advantage. The final period became academic as Stockton pushed the lead to 30 and cruised to the 71-48 triumph.

In addition to Treadwell's game-high 19 markers, Williams filled the stat sheet with 14 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four blocks. Freshman Madison Noordeloos (Hawthorne/Hawthorne) chipped in with 11 points and fellow frosh Hailee Porricelli (Howell/Freehold Twp.) dished a game-high six assists.

Stockton held the visitors to just 26.1% (18-69) shooting for the game and forced 26 turnovers that turned into 24 points on the afternoon. Rene Hudson was the only player for New England in double figures with 13 points. Her teammate Jocelyn Vien grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and tossed in seven markers on the day.

Williams, Treadwell, Vien, Marissa Woodard from Morrisville State and Olviia Gorman from Delaware Valley were selected to the Stockton Tip-Off All-Tournament Team.

Stockton will begin NJAC play on Tuesday when they face Rowan University in Glassboro at 6 pm.
