Stockton Nipped by Rutgers-Camden 67-66 in OT

Camden, NJ – Stockton University (5-2, 2-2 NJAC) saw leads slip away in the fourth quarter and overtime, resulting in a 67-66 OT loss to Rutgers-Camden (5-4, 2-2) in an NJAC road game. Stockton received strong inside play from the duo of Najha Treadwell (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) and Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West), who shot a combined 18-25 (72%).

Treadwell went a blistering 13-16 from the field (81.3%) and scored a career-high 30 points. Williams finished with 11 points on 5-9 shooting (55.6%) plus game highs of 17 rebounds and five assists. The senior now has 985 career boards, three shy of the school record of 988 by LaTonya Oliver (2008-12). April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point), Stockton's third frontcourt starter, contributed nine points.

Stockton led 47-39 after a Treadwell jumper ended the scoring in the third quarter. Rutgers-Camden reeled off the first 11 points of the fourth period to surge ahead 50-47. After five lead changes, the Ospreys were on top 58-54 following a three-pointer by Colleen Branagan (Matawan/Matawan) with 2:30 on the clock.

Lea Mendolla (Nutley/Mount St. Dominic) made one of two free throws with just five seconds left to make it 59-56 in Stockton's favor. On Rutgers-Camden's final possession of regulation, Gabby Green was fouled attempting a three-pointer with just 0.2 seconds left and sank all three free throws to force overtime at 59-59.

Williams scored four points early in OT to spark the Ospreys to a 7-2 run that gave them a 66-61 advantage with 3:23 to play. Stockton did not score again, going 0-3 from the floor and committing three turnovers while the Scarlet Raptors ran off the last seven points of the game to down the Ospreys 67-66.

Overall, Stockton led for 31:43 of the 45-minute game and stretched the lead to eight on five occasions in the third quarter. Although the starting frontcourt of Treadwell, Williams and Peterson shot 66.7 percent (22-33) from the field, the Ospreys as a team went just 3-21 (14.3%) from three-point range and 7-14 (50%) at the free throw line.
