Stockton Win Streak Comes to an End, 73-63

Boxscore

Jersey City, NJ – Stockton University (14-10, 9-9 NJAC) had its five-game winning streak snapped with a 73-63 defeat to New Jersey City (19-6, 13-5) in the regular season finale. The Gothic Knights are second in the Others Receiving Votes section of the D3hoops.com national poll, two spots outside the top 25.

Kashaun Barnes (Toms River/Manchester Twp.) tied his career high with 18 points as the lone Osprey in double figures. Marcus Harmon (Whitesboro/Middle Twp.) tossed in nine markers followed by Blake Rossell (Margate/St. Augustine) with eight. Stockton was strong at the free throw line once again, going 17-20 (85%) led by Barnes at 8-8, however the Ospreys were a frigid 2-20 (10%) from three-point land.

Stockton got off to a good start as Barnes sank two straight layups to cap a run of nine straight points by the Ospreys for an 11-4 lead. NJCU rallied to take a 16-15 edge but Stockton responded with a 12-1 spurt and opened up a 27-17 advantage. The margin reached 12 at 31-19 before the Gothic Knights closed the half with an 18-5 run to put Stockton down 37-36 at the break.

The Ospreys surrendered the first eight points of the second half to make it a 45-36 deficit. Two baskets in a row by Rossell got Stockton within 45-40 but the Ospreys did not get any closer than the five-point gap the rest of the way. They were just 1-12 from beyond the arc in the second half and suffered their first setback since January 28.

Stockton is the No. 6 seed for the NJAC tournament and will go right back to New Jersey City on Saturday to face the No. 3 seed Gothic Knights in an NJAC first-round playoff game.
