Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (1-0) opened the 2017 season by rapping 17 hits in a 13-1 drubbing over Penn State Abington (0-4) on Friday afternoon. Six different Ospreys had two hits or more, led by
Tyler Hobbs (Brick/Brick Memorial) with three safeties on the day.

Stockton started right away in their half of the first inning when
Nick LaPorta (Pompton Plains/Pequannock) and
JJ Swentkowski (Egg Harbor Twp./EHT) drove in runs in a four-hit frame for a quick 2-0 lead. One hit and two errors led to three more markers in the third inning and the rout was on at 5-0.

That was all starter
Dylan Warburton (Sewell/Washington Twp.) needed as he mowed through the Nittany Lions lineup, allowing just two hits and striking out five in his four innings of work. The Ospreys plated six runs over the middle three innings to make it 11-0. Freshman catcher
Garrhet Reedy (Tinton Falls/Monmouth) picked up his first two career hits and RBI during the outburst.

The final three innings were a formality as Stockton plated two more runs while allowing just a single marker for the visitors to set the final score at 13-1. Fifteen position players and three hurlers saw action for Stockton in the blowout victory. Â

In addition to Hobbs' three hits, Reedy,
Zach Gustites (Flemington/Hunterdon Central),
Joe Pipher (Brick/Brick Memorial), LaPorta and Swentkowski all picked up two hits on the day. Pipher also drove in two runs and scored twice.

Reedy had two RBI, with Stephen Edelstein (Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) scoring two runs. In addition to Reedy, fellow freshmenÂ
David Mann (Waldwick/Waldwick) and
Mike DeSenzo (Pompton Plains/Pequannock) also earned their first career hits.

Warburton notched his first win of the season, tossing the first four innings before reaching his pitch count for the day.
Brandon Perna (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) pitched three frames with six strikeouts before sophomore
Ray Hughes (Forked River/Lacey Twp.) finished up the final two innings, fanning four hitters.

Brett Guaglionona led Penn State Abington with two of their five hits on the afternoon. Pedro Aldebol pitched five innings, striking out three hitters in taking his second loss of the season.

Stockton will be off until March 3 when they will travel to Centenary University for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
