Stockton Extends Win Streak to Seven

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (8-1, 1-0 NJAC) opened NJAC play with a 25-10, 25-19, 25-17 sweep of defending conference champion Montclair State (4-3, 0-1). The victory was the seventh straight for the Ospreys and sixth in a row by a 3-0 count. Stephanie Kovacs (Allentown, PA/Central Catholic) led Stockton with a match-high 13 kills, reaching double figures for the fifth consecutive match.
 
A pair of freshman setters made big contributions to the win. Two-time NJAC Rookie of the Week Emily Sullivan (Bridgewater/Bridgewater-Raritan) tallied 20 assists and seven aces while Alice Brandt (Floral Park, NY/Floral Park) chipped in with 11 assists and five aces. Natalie Miller (Pittsburgh, PA/Thomas Jefferson) scooped a match-high 12 digs.
 
Stockton seized control right from the start, scoring the first five points of the match. The Ospreys later closed the opening set with an 11-2 run highlighted by four kills by Kovacs and three aces from Brandt in the 25-10 rout.
 
The second set was tied 12-12 when Stockton reeled off seven straight points, including two kills by Kovacs and two aces from Sullivan, for a 19-12 lead. The Ospreys stayed in front by at least five the rest of the way and prevailed 25-19.
 
The third set was close early and knotted at 11 until Stockton used a 9-2 run to take command at 20-13. Kovacs and Allie Desmond (Ellicott City, MD/Marriotts Ridge) spurred the outburst with two kills apiece. The Ospreys later scored five of the last seven points to close out the match 25-17.
 
Stockton will play its home opener on Thursday when the Ospreys host Swarthmore at 7 pm.
