Scranton, PA – Stockton University (3-0) topped Marywood (1-2) 2-1 on a game-winning goal by
Dan Marino (Turnersville/Washington Twp.) in overtime. The victory was the third straight by the Ospreys to open the season.
Eucario Solano (Galloway/Absegami) also scored for Stockton and
Justin Ruiz (Wayne/Wayne Hills) assisted on both goals.
Solano gave Stockton the early lead with his second goal of the season 15:45 into the match. Solano potted the rebound of a shot by Ruiz that was saved by Marywood goalie Michael Mejia. Ruiz's assist gave him a point in all three games thus far. The advantaged was short-lived as the Mustangs' Zac Lloyds tied it less than three minutes later at 18:10.
The Ospreys outshot Marywood 7-3 in the second half but the ball stayed out of the net for both teams and the match went to overtime. Stockton pounced quickly in OT. After a save by Mejia, Ruiz got to the rebound and fed the ball to Marino, who potted the game-winner just 1:42 into overtime to give the Ospreys the 1-0 victory.
Stockton goalkeeper
Kellen Groover (Florence/Life Center) earned his third win in a row by making four saves. The Ospreys doubled Marywood 16-8 in shots on the night.
Stockton will play back-to-back games this weekend, visiting Susquehanna on Saturday at 2 pm and then hosting Alvernia on Sunday at 3 pm.
