Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Stockton Overwhelmed by Ramapo

Mahwah, NJ – Stockton University (11-7, 5-6 NJAC) stayed close to NJAC leader Ramapo (14-4, 10-1) early but could not keep up the Roadrunners as the game wore on, and the Ospreys suffered an 89-60 setback. Two Stockton players reached double figures but the squad finished with its second-lowest point total of the season.

Zavon Johnson (Trenton/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) led all players in the game with 21 points and dished a team-high three assists. Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) went 3-7 from three-point range (42.9%) and scored 12 points. Ferebee also tied for game-high honors with nine rebounds.

Kashaun Barnes (Manchester/Manchester Twp.) scored five of his six points in the first 12 minutes and the Stockton was within three at 20-17 after he drained a three-pointer with 8:12 on the first-half clock. The game began to slip from the Ospreys' grasp over the next three-and-a-half minutes as they were outscored 14-3.

The margin reached 17 late in the half before a layup by Johnson in the final minute ended the scoring in the first stanza with Stockton trailing 41-26. Ferebee topped the Ospreys with six points before the break.

Early in the second half, Stockton made a charge as Ferebee sank two three-pointers and Johnson added five points during a 13-4 run that closed the gap to eight at 47-39. After Ramapo extended the margin back to 14, the Ospreys were within 60-51 following a three-pointer by Johnson with 12:12 to go.

Stockton went into an offensive slump from there, scoring just nine points in the last 12 minutes. Ramapo capitalized on the drought and pulled away, dealing the Ospreys the 89-60 defeat. Johnson scored 17 of his team's 34 second-half points.

Stockton returns home to host The College of New Jersey at The Sports Center on Wednesday at 8 pm.
