Stockton Defense Shuts Down TCNJ 68-45

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (12-7, 8-4 NJAC) held The College of New Jersey (14-5, 9-3 NJAC) without a point for the first 5:28 of the second period and cruised to a 68-45 victory on Wednesday night. Najha Treadwell (Cinnaminson/Cinnaminson) registered her third double-double in the last four games with 13 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Ospreys to the team's fifth consecutive win.

The contest was taut during the first quarter, as Stockton had a lead no larger than five points. The Ospreys eventually took a 19-16 advantage after the period as freshman Hailee Porricelli (Howell/Freehold Twp.) topped the squad with seven points during the frame.

The Osprey defense then clamped down on the Lions in the second period, ripping off 11 straight points for a 30-16 margin. Treadwell and Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/CH West) scored four markers each during the spurt while holding the visitors scoreless during the first 5:28 of the frame.

Stockton continued the run by outscoring the Lions 22-6 during the quarter for a commanding 41-22 lead at the break. The defense held TCNJ to just 2-13 shooting (15.4%) including 1-9 (11.1%) from behind the arc during the period. Williams led Stockton with 10 points during the first half.

Stockton's defense never let the Lions get untracked to begin the second half. The Ospreys increased their advantage to 52-32 after three quarters. A 16-13 final quarter gave Stockton the 68-45 victory and their fifth consecutive win.

Williams led all players with 18 points while Treadwell scored her double-double. Porricelli added 11 points, with Lea Mendolla (Nutley/Mount St. Dominic) topping all players with three assists and four steals to go with seven points. Williams and April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point) grabbed seven rebounds each in support of Treadwell.

The Ospreys shot 18-20 (90.0%) from the free throw line to help seal the win. Stockton held the visitors to an overall 17-65 (26.2%) shooting night, including 2-26 (7.7%) from the three-point line.

Jen Byrne led the Lions with 15 points while freshman Shannon Devitt scored 11 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and had a game-high five blocks.
