Stockton’s Five-Game Win Streak Halted by Red Hawks

Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (9-5, 3-4 NJAC) brought a five-game winning streak into its conference game at Montclair State (11-3, 5-2) but saw the run come to an end with a 77-64 setback. The Ospreys shot a season-low 32.8 percent from the floor (22-67) and could not overcome the slump.

Steve Ferebee (Galloway/Absegami) topped Stockton with 13 points while Kashaun Barnes (Toms River/Manchester Twp.) and Jordan Taylor (East Orange/Cicely Tyson) tossed in 11 markers apiece. Barnes also tallied a game-high four steals and team-high three assists.

The game started on a high note as two free throws apiece by Zavon Johnson (Trenton/West Windsor-Plainsboro South) and Ferebee staked Stockton to a 4-0 lead in the first minute. The Ospreys managed just seven points in the next 9:35 and found themselves down 22-11.

Four straight points by Barnes later got Stockton within 24-17 but Montclair outscored the Ospreys 17-8 in the last seven minutes of the half for a 41-25 count at the break. Kelvin Tull (Millville/Millville) paced Stockton with all eight of his points before intermission.

After trailing by as much as 19 early in the second half, Stockton made a run. The Ospreys used a 25-9 outburst to close the gap to 55-52. Ferebee scored eight points on two treys and a dunk while Taylor scored Stockton's last eight markers of the spurt.

The comeback was halted as Montclair State quickly reeled off nine points in a row to make it 64-52 with 8:10 to play. The Ospreys connected for only 12 points in the last eight minutes and trailed by double figures the entire time as their five-game win streak fizzled with a 77-64 defeat.

Stockton will be on the road again on Wednesday for an NJAC game at New Jersey City at 8 pm.
