Stockton Shuts Out Pioneers 3-0

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-4, 2-2 NJAC) blanked William Paterson (6-8, 1-3) 3-0 in an NJAC home game for its second consecutive shutout victory. Britney Stein (Ocean City/Ocean City) and Jennelle Long (Matawan/Matawan) led the Ospreys with a goal and an assist apiece.

Stockton controlled the play in the first half, outshooting the Pioneers 8-0 while scoring an early goal and a late one. Victoria Caiazzo (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) gave the Ospreys a 1-0 lead just 2:49 into the game. Caiazzo buried a centering pass from Sarah Fisher (Monroeville/Woodstown) following a penalty corner.

Stein later made it a 2-0 game with 5:43 left in the first half. The sophomore started the play by stickhandling from midfield into the scoring arc. Long then shoveled the ball toward the cage, where Stein knocked it home for her fourth marker of the season.

The action was more back-and-forth in the second half, with Stockton netting the only goal while also protecting its lead. Long and Stein again combined for the tally, which came with 14:50 remaining. Stein sent the ball across from right to left for the finish by Long. The junior's third goal of the season closed the scoring in the 3-0 victory.

Every healthy Osprey saw action in the game and three goalies combined on the shutout. Starter Emily Gilligan (West Deptford/West Deptford) made one save in 59:27 to extend her shutout streak to 132:32 since she last allowed a goal.

Niya Calloway (Matawan/Matawan) replaced Gilligan and registered one save in 7:04. Sophomore Natalie Ricevuto (Washington Twp./Washington Twp.) then made her college debut and did not face a shot in the last 3:29 to close out the 3-0 triumph. WPU goalkeeper Mallory Rickerhauser tallied four saves for the Pioneers.

Stockton will return to action on Wednesday when the Ospreys travel to Gwynedd Mercy to resume a game that was suspended due to lightning on September 26.
