Galloway, NJ – Third-seeded Stockton University (13-4-4) was eliminated from the NJAC Tournament with a 1-0 upset loss to sixth-seeded Kean University (5-7-6) in the first round. Although the Ospreys registered 20 shots, they were unable to get on the board against the defensive-minded Cougars.
Stockton spent most of the first half in the offensive third as the Ospreys probed the Kean defense for an opening.
Emily Frazee (Port Republic/Cedar Creek) generated Stockton's two closest chances, one that was saved by Kean goalie Mary Bystrycki and a floater that just missed over the crossbar.
Kean struck 4:32 into the second half. Sabrina Pascarella gained the end line and fed Brittany Birth, who volleyed the ball toward the goal where Carley Garlasco tapped it in for the lone goal of the match. The Cougars' defense then frustrated Stockton for the next 40 minutes. Although the Ospreys tried 12 shots in the half, most were from long range or bad angles.
Stockton goalkeeper
Nicole Pallante (Brick/Brick Twp.), the team's lone senior, made three saves in her final college game. Pallante holds the Stockton record for minutes played in a career (7,888), stands tied for second in school history in shutouts (35) and is fifth in saves (278).
Salena LeDonne (Parsippany/Parsippany) led the Ospreys with five shots followed by
Michelle Sander (Ewing/Notre Dame) with four. Bystrycki earned the shutout with eight saves for Kean.
Stockton's 13 victories on the season were its highest total since winning 15 games in 2014 and a four-win improvement over last year.
