Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (7-5-1, 3-2-0 NJAC) came from behind in the second half and squeezed out a 2-1 victory over William Paterson (7-4-1, 2-3-0 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon.
Christian Bik (Vineland/St. Augustine) and
John Maxted (Middletown/Middletown North) each scored a goal and assist in the game.
The first half was a grueling contest as both squads played tough defense against each other. The Pioneers had the better of play and it paid off, as they scored a goal with less than three minutes to go before the break, for a 1-0 lead. The visitors held a 9-1 shot advantage during the first 45 minutes of play.
The Ospreys turned up the pressure on the Pioneers during the final frame as they started to gain field advantage. That pressure turned into Bik's tally at 57:20. After a scramble in front, Maxted found Bik for his fifth score of the season to knot the game at 1-1.
In the 85th minute, it was Bik's turn to assist Maxted on the eventual game winner. The junior found Maxted alone in front on a beautiful pass, and he made no mistake in converting his first tally of the season. The Stockton defense held on to the run the clock out and secure the 2-1 win.
Michael Lescano (Union/St. Benedict's Prep) made three saves in garnering his third win of the season in net for Stockton. It was the second consecutive victory for the Ospreys and third in the last four matches.
Brandon Harley scored the lone goal for William Paterson. Gabriel Reyes took the loss, playing 81:13 in net. Reyes relieved starter Kyle Quigley, who had to leave the contest due to injury.
Stockton will travel to Ewing, NJ for their next match, as the Ospreys will face The College of New Jersey on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 7:30 pm.
