Stockton Grabs First Win with 80-41 Rout

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (1-1) captured their first win of the season, with an 80-41 drubbing of Lehman College (0-2) on Friday night in the first game of the Stockton Tip-Off Classic. April Peterson (Lafayette/High Point) led four Ospreys in double figures with 18 points and 10 rebounds on the night. It was also the first career victory at Stockton for head coach Devin Jefferson.
 
The Ospreys started strong and never trailed in the contest, outscoring the Lightning 17-6 in the first period, with Peterson tallying eight markers. The defense stepped up with seven turnovers in the first frame. Stockton totaled 23 points on 23 turnovers, while shooting 15-18 (83.3%) from the line on the evening.
 
Stockton stepped up the pressure in the second period, led by Peterson and freshman Emily Donzanti (Toms River/Toms River South) who hit for six points each, as the Ospreys took a 37-20 lead into the break. The third quarter saw the Ospreys put the game away starting on a 16-0 run to stretch the margin to 53-20.
 
Natalie Miller (New Milford/Mew Milford) scored all eight of her points in the quarter during the spurt, as Stockton ran out to a 29-8 quarter and 66-28 margin after three periods. The final stanza became academic with the Ospreys holding a 14-13 advantage to set the final score at 80-41.
 
In addition to Peterson, Donzanti and Kirsten Flournoy (Sewell/Timber Creek) scored 13 points each, with Miller tacking on 11 markers, including 3-6 from behind the arc. Donzanti led all players with five assists and tied with Raquel Harris-Scott (Pine Hill/Overbrook), Miller and Morgan Henderson (Cedar Run/Southern Regional) with three steals apiece.
 
Lisa Fields led all players with 23 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Lehman as the only player in double figures for the visitors.
 
Stockton will take on the winner of Penn State-Abington and Catholic for the Championship tomorrow at 3pm.
