Mahwah, NJ – Stockton University (1-5, 0-3 NJAC) rallied from a nine-point deficit to tie with just over a minute remaining but Ramapo edged the Ospreys 67-61 (5-2, 1-2) in an NJAC road game.
Kirsten Flournoy (Sewell/Timber Creek) scored a team-high 14 points for Stockton.
Flournoy also tied her career high with 10 rebounds for a double-double.
Natalie Miller (New Milford/New Milford) hit four three-pointers to equal her career high of 12 points and grabbed a career-best eight boards.
Emily Donzanti (Toms River/TR South) sank three from beyond the arc for nine points and dished a game-high six assists.
Stockton fell behind 15-4 in the first 5:10 but closed the first quarter with an 11-2 run to get within 17-15. Flournoy went 4-4 at the line during the spurt. The momentum continued into the second period as the Ospreys scored the first seven markers to pull ahead 22-17 after a three-pointer by Donzanti. The lead reached eight, 26-18, after a Flournoy jumper three minutes into the quarter.
Ramapo chipped away at the margin throughout the quarter and pulled ahead 35-33 on a jumper by Jessica Repasy in the closing seconds. Flournoy tallied 14 points and eight rebounds in the first half. She went 6-6 at the line to lead the Ospreys to a 9-12 team performance (75%) at the stripe but Stockton committed 16 fouls that resulted in 17 Ramapo points on free throws.
The Ospreys did not score in the third quarter until just 3:50 remained. They shot only 1-10 from the floor and managed just five points in the stanza, resulting in a 47-38 deficit. Stockton chipped away in the fourth quarter, cutting the margin to three on a three-pointer by Miller at the 7:18 mark and later on another trey by the sophomore with 1:23 on the clock.
After a Ramapo turnover, Miller again drained a three-pointer to tie the game at 61-61 with 1:10 to play. The Roadrunners then took the lead for good on a three-point play by Tia Solomon with 55 seconds remaining. Three more Ramapo points on free throws in the last 20 seconds sealed Stockton's fate, 67-61.
Solomon led all players with 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Roadrunners. Samantha Rinaldi and Jenna Harsh added 11 and 10 points respectively.
Stockton will have a quick turnaround and host Gwynedd Mercy in a non-conference game on Monday at 7 pm.
