Sasha Williams (Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill West) was selected All-America Honorable Mention by a pair of organizations, the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and
D3hoops.com. Both groups announced their All-America selections in conjunction with the NCAA Division III Final Four, which took place over the weekend.
Williams became just the second Osprey to be recognized as a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, joining Stockton Athletics Hall of Famer Kelli Bakanowsky (2003). Williams is the first Stockton player to be recognized for All-America status in the 21-year history of D3hoops.com
Williams was voted NJAC Defensive Player of the Year for the fourth straight time and also was chosen NJAC First Team, All-ECAC First Team and D3hoops All-Atlantic Region First Team prior to receiving the pair of All-America Honorable Mention accolades. The 6-2 senior established herself as one of the top players in NCAA Division III with an outstanding 2017-18 season.
Williams finished second in the nation in blocked shots (115) and blocked shots per game (4.26) as well as 13th nationally in defensive rebounds per game (9.0), 15th in double-doubles (17), 20th in rebounds (307) and 30th in rebounds per game (11.4). She also was one of 28 players in Division III to record a triple-double (22 pts/10 reb/12 blk vs. TCNJ on 2/20/18).
Williams topped the NJAC in rebounds (11.4 rpg) and blocks (4.3 bpg) and also finished third in scoring (17.1 ppg), fifth in field goal percentage (.503) and sixth in assists (3.1 apg) and free throw percentage (.760). She posted career highs in scoring, assists, field goal percentage and free throw percentage during her senior season.
Williams' career year also featured a few milestones. She both broke the school record for rebounds and grabbed her 1,000th career board against William Paterson on December 9. Williams became just the third NCAA Division III player to reach the 500-block mark versus Rowan on January 17 and now stands second in Division III history with 547 blocks. She also moved into the NCAA Division III top 25 with 58 career double-doubles.
Williams, a three-time NJAC First Team selection, practically rewrote the Stockton record book in her four years as an Osprey. She holds school marks for rebounds in a season (349 in 2015-16) and career (1,212) plus blocked shots in a season (175 in 2015-16) and career (547). She also ranks fourth in Stockton history in scoring (1,489 points), sixth in assists (241) and 10th in steals (173).
