Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (3-11, 0-2 NJAC) traveled to Montclair State (13-6, 2-0 NJAC) but dropped two close games to the Red Hawks 7-6 and 5-4 in the NJAC opener for both squads. Joe LaCava (Toms River/Toms River North) led the Ospreys with three hits and three RBI on the day.

Game one saw Stockton jump out to a 3-1 lead after seven frames before the Red Hawks took a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning. The Ospreys answered in their half of the ninth inning, with RBI from Rico Viani (Monroe Twp. /Monroe Twp.), JJ Swentkowski (Egg Harbor Twp. /EHT) and Nick D'Arcy (Toms River/Toms River East) to re-claim the lead at 6-4.

The Red Hawks captured game one of the twin bill in their half of the frame. A walk, two hits and two wild pitches helped to take the contest 7-6. Ray Hughes (Forked River/Lacey) threw well, tossing seven innings allowing one run, two hits and striking out nine. He did not factor in the decision.

John Perrino (Wall/Wall) reached on an error, Garrhet Reedy (Tinton Falls/Monmouth) singled and Swentkowski followed up with a single plating Perrino for one run.

Joe Cashman (Bordentown/Bordentown) and LaCava were hit by pitches allowing Reedy to score and the margin was 4-3 in favor of the Red Hawks. The Ospreys knotted the game in the seventh frame as Swentkowski singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt, third on a wild pitch, the scored on a LaCava single for the 4-4 tie.
