Stockton Downs Montclair State 13-7

Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (5-3) gave up the first three goals of the game but rebounded for a 13-7 over Montclair State (3-3) on Saturday afternoon.  Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic), Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern) and Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) scored four goals each for Stockton. It was the first time the Ospreys have beaten the Red Hawks since 2006.

The Red Hawks tallied the first three markers of the contest in the first 4:53 of the game for a quick 3-0 advantage. Stockton responded by hitting the net for five straight goals to take a 5-3 lead. One goal by Ellis and two each by Caposella and Tiernan put Stockton ahead. Caposella's third score offset a Red Hawks tally for a 6-4 Stockton margin after one period of play.

The Osprey defense then clamped down on the home team, allowing just one goal in each of the next three periods. Two goals by Ellis gave Stockton an 8-5 lead at the break. The Ospreys scored three goals in the third period and a pair in the final frame to set the final score at 13-7 in favor of Stockton.

In addition to the goal scorers, Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) had a goal and dished two assists. Zack Aho (Shamong/Seneca) and Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp. /Monroe Twp.) also had two assists. Ryan Bradley (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) led all players with six ground balls. Anthony Brigati was 19-24 on face-offs with Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) making 12 saves in net for Stockton.

Sean Stadtlander scored a pair of goals to lead Montclair State, with Matt Haemmerle dishing two assists. Jack Cardew started in net for Montclair and made 10 saves in the first half. Matthew McLaren played the second half and kicked out three shots.
