Stockton Stays Hot with Sweep over Rutgers-Camden

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (17-9, 4-2 NJAC) stayed hot as they swept a doubleheader from Rutgers-Camden (9-10, 2-4 NJAC) by scores of 9-1 and 12-0 on Tuesday afternoon. The Ospreys have won six of their last seven games and ended both games on the eight-run rule after five innings. Daniela Marinaro (Cedar Grove/Cedar Grove) led the Ospreys with a solid day at the plate, with two hits and four RBI.

Stockton trailed 1-0 early in game one before they exploded for nine runs in their half of the fourth inning. The Ospreys sent 15 batters to the plate scoring all nine of their markers. Ashley Lobell (Cedar Knolls/Whippany Park) drove in three runs during the uprising, with Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) knocking in two more.

That gave Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) her 10th win of the season as she tossed four innings allowing just the one run. Samantha Huetter (Roseland/West Essex) finished up, throwing a scoreless inning with one strikeout in the 9-1 final.

Game two saw Stockton take the game with another big frame. After plating a single run in the bottom of the first inning for a 1-0 lead, the Ospreys scored 11 times on eight hits and an error for a commanding 12-0 lead for Huetter.

14 Ospreys went to the plate, with a big blow coming from Marinaro, who cleared the bases with a ringing double to right center for three RBI. Later in the inning, Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp. /Monroe Twp.) blasted a grand slam to dead center to put the game out of reach. Schieda had two hits and five RBI in the frame.

Huetter then cruised through the final two innings for her second win of the season. The freshman allowed just two hits and struck out one in the complete game victory.

In addition to Marinaro, Massa rapped three hits, scored four times and drove in three runs in the sweep. Lobell finished up the day two hits two runs and three RBI, with Schieda picking up five RBI.  Freshman Madison Kelly (Franklinville/Delsea) drove in her first career RBI during the big rally, scoring fellow frosh Gracie Meyer (Pittsgrove/A.P. Schalick), who scored her first career run.

The Ospreys will play for the third straight day as they will travel to Jersey City to face New Jersey City tomorrow in another NJAC tilt. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3 pm.
