Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (5-15, 2-6 NJAC) gave up five runs in the first inning, on the way to a 20-2 defeat to #17 The College of New Jersey (17-5, 6-2 NJAC) on Friday afternoon.
Rico Viani (Monroe Twp. /Monroe Twp.) led the Ospreys with two of the team's six hits in the game.
The Lions started the onslaught early, plating five runs on four hits, in the first inning against Stockton freshman starter
Gavin Pabst (Manchester/Manchester Twp.). Stockton got one back in their half of the second frame as
JJ Swentkowski (Egg Harbor Twp. /EHT) led off with an infield hit.
Nick D'Arcy (Toms River/Toms River East) reached on an error, then
Zach Gustites (Flemington/Hunterdon Central) and
Jeff Schick (Marlton/Cherokee) walked, forcing in a run to make it 5-1. TCNJ would then out the game out of reach scoring 13 runs over the next six innings for a commanding 18-1 margin.
The Ospreys scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth.
Anthony Napoli (Erial/Timber Creek) smacked a double down the left field line and eventually came around to score on a
Brandan Gomez (Jersey City/Ferris) RBI single. The Lions scored two more in the final frame to close out the 20-2 victory.
Stockton used five pitchers with Pabst taking the loss to drop to 0-2. Zachary Shindler and Tommy McCarthy led the 20 hit attack for the Lions with three safeties each. Michael Fischer picked up his third win of the year tossing eight solid innings.
The Ospreys will have a quick turnaround, as the Ospreys will face New Jersey City tomorrow for a conference doubleheader. First game is set for 11:30 am.
