Stockton Falls in NJAC Finale

Montclair, NJ – Stockton University (9-7, 2-4 NJAC) played their final regular season game of the year, but dropped a tight 12-8 decision to Montclair State (9-6, 4-2 NJAC) on Saturday afternoon. Tamara Torales (Basking Ridge/Ridge) led the Ospreys with five goals on the day.

Stockton fell behind by five goals before Torales netted her first score of the day at 10:18 to cut the lead to 5-1. After a Red Hawks tally, Torales potted a free position shot for a 6-2 lead for the home team, which would last until the break.

The Red Hawks stretched the advantage to 11-5 with 8:03 remaining in the game, before Stockton mounted a charge. Two goals by Gaby Ojeda (Galloway/Absegami) and another goal by Torales sliced the lead to 11-8 with 4:29 left but that was as close as Stockton would get. Montclair held the Ospreys off the board and scored one last tally to set the final score at 12-8.

Torales also had five ground balls and three caused turnovers to go with her five scores on the day. Ojeda tallied three markers, giving her 38 on the year, the third-highest total in a single season in Stockton history.

Freshman Nicole Jandras (Egg Harbor Twp. /EHT) topped the team with three caused turnovers, with Melanie Patterson (Jackson/Jackson Liberty) and Danielle Graham (Cherry Hill/ CH West) grabbing three draw controls each. Freshman goalkeeper Stevie Ader (Califon/Voorhees) made six saves in net for the Ospreys, playing 36:21. Maura Twiggs (Ocean City/Ocean City) played 23:39 in net kicking out two shots.

The Ospreys end the regular season with a fifth straight winning season and will await a possible ECAC Tournament berth.
