Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (13-9, 2-2 NJAC) split an NJAC doubleheader with 18th-ranked Rowan University (16-5-1, 2-2 NJAC) on the Ospreys' home field. Stockton knocked off the Profs 3-1 in the first game but was unable to complete the sweep, falling 1-0 in the second game.
Stockton pitcher
Hannah Bibeault (Hopatcong/Hopatcong) tossed a gem and came within one out of a shutout in the opener. Bibeault did not allow an earned run (one unearned), scattered six hits and struck out five in her third complete game of the year to improve to 8-1.
The game was scoreless into the bottom of the fourth, when the Ospreys broke through for a pair of runs.
Carli Shaw (Bordentown/Bordentown) led off with a single and later scored on a line-drive double by
Casey Schieda (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.).
Megan Katzmar (Cinnaminson/Holy Cross) followed with a pinch-hit RBI single that plated Schieda for a 2-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the sixth, a Rowan error and passed ball put a runner in scoring position for
Alexandra Cosenzo (East Hanover/Hanover Park), who delivered an RBI single that made it 3-0 Stockton. Bibeault was one out away from a shutout in the seventh inning when an error allowed the Profs to get on the board before she induced a groundout that completed the 3-1 Stockton victory.
Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) pitched an outstanding game in the nightcap but was outdueled by Rowan hurler Lauren Shannon in the well-played 1-0 pitchers' duel. Torp allowed just one run and five hits, but the Stockton offense was held in check.
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) rapped two of her team's three hits while
Chelsea Thomas (Barrington/Haddon Hts.) added a bunt single and a stolen base. The game was scoreless into the sixth inning when an RBI single by Cassandra Gerard resulted in the only run of the 1-0 decision.
Stockton's NJAC doubleheader at New Jersey City has been postponed for tomorrow with no makeup date yet. The Ospreys are scheduled to host Neumann in a twinbill on Monday 3 pm.
