Poughkeepsie, NY – Stockton University (7-3) outscored Vassar College (2-8) 4-1 in the third quarter to erase a halftime deficit and prevail 9-8 for its fourth straight win. The Ospreys took the lead for good with four straight goals during a 10-minute span in the second half.
Mike Caposella (Wayne/DePaul Catholic) led Stockton with two goals and an assist.
The Ospreys fell behind 3-1 in the first 13 minutes, with
Eric Ellis (Voorhees/Eastern) netting the lone goal.
Luc Swedlund (Randolph/Randolph) scored with five seconds left in the first quarter to make it 3-2 and
Colin Shea (Rumson/Rumson-Fair Haven) pulled Stockton into a 3-3 tie four minutes into the second stanza. Vassar answered with two goals 57 seconds apart for a 5-3 count at halftime.
Erik Anderson (Monroe Twp./Monroe Twp.) opened the second-half scoring 52 seconds into the third quarter, but the home team responded with a tally of its own and Stockton's deficit was 6-4. The Ospreys then seized control of the game with four straight goals. Caposella started the run, followed by
Joey Tiernan (Voorhees/Eastern) for a 6-6 tie.
Tommy Gallo (Clinton/North Hunterdon) gave Stockton the lead at 7-6 late in the third quarter and
Zack Aho (Shamong/Seneca) increased the advantage to 8-6 with 13:25 remaining in the game. The teams exchanged goals, with Caposella striking for the Ospreys, and the Brewers then pulled within 9-8 with 3:01 on the clock.
Vassar fired two shots off the mark and
Chris Holleritter (Oak Ridge/Jefferson Twp.) caused a turnover with 1:07 remaining that essentially sealed the 9-8 victory for the Ospreys. Holleritter and
Max Pukenas (Medford/Shawnee) each caused three turnovers in the win while goalkeeper
Justin Ruiz (Holmdel/Holmdel) made eight saves.
Stockton will conclude a four-game road trip with a matchup at Elizabethtown on Wednesday at 4 pm.
