Montclair, NJ – No. 5 seed Stockton University (24-16) fell to No. 3 seed Ramapo (26-11) 3-1 in a winners bracket game of the NJAC Tournament. Despite the setback, the Ospreys are still alive in the double-elimination tourney, however they are relegated to the losers bracket.
Morgan DiVello (Atco/Hammonton) reached base three times, on two hits and a walk, and scored the lone run for Stockton.
Alexa Massa (Moorestown/Moorestown) stroked two hits and
Ashley Lobell (Cedar Knolls/Whippany Park) walked twice.
Ramapo took an early 1-0 edge with a run on two hits in the top of the first and scored twice in the top of the fourth to increase the margin to 3-0. DiVello walked with one out in the bottom of the fourth and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Nicole Petrovich (East Hanover/Hanover Park) then delivered a pinch-hit RBI single to score DiVello and make it a 3-1 game.
Victoria Torp (West Milford/West Milford) came out of the bullpen to start the fifth inning and pitched three scoreless frames, but Stockton was unable to mount a rally against Ramapo pitcher Erin Fitzsimmons. The Ospreys stranded two runners apiece in the sixth and seventh frames, resulting in the 3-1 defeat.
Stockton will face No. 2 seed Rowan University in an elimination game tomorrow at 1 pm. The Ospreys have won two out of three against the Profs this season, including 4-2 triumph in the first round of the NJAC Tournament on Tuesday.
